Funke Akindele, referred to subtlely as “boss lady” with full name (Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde) was born August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian actress. In 2009 she won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Akindele worked in television before switching to cinema, becoming known for her starring role in family-oriented television shows. Her qualifications include a diploma in Mass Communication and a law degree from the University of Lagos-Nigeria.

After acting in over 50 major films over a 10 year period, Funke Akindele shot to international mega-stardom with the blockbuster movie ‘JENIFA’ and has not looked back since that time. Funke has since the ‘JENIFA’ phenomenon gone on to win many laurels and awards in recognition of her body of work in developing the Nollywood movie industry.

Funke recently got married to her beloved husband, Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede in a high society wedding in on May 24th 2012 and serves as the first Nollywood actress to Carry the Olympic Torch in Birmingham UK for the stipulated 300 meters on July 1, 2012.
